Ōtsu no Uminari, formerly/alternatively Kaisei, is based on an OC from a badfic written by Anjarie03 – props to them for writing a surprisingly sympathetic character.

This character contains elements of historical fiction, specifically by being a fictionalized version of a historical figure. Fiction with such elements does not constitute Real-Person Fiction.

🍁Name: Ōtsu no Uminari (大津海成), first name alternatively read Kaisei *This is a Japanese name, which means family name-first. This name also adheres to the naming convention of most Heian aristocrats, which assigns a "no" sound between the surname and first name.

🍁Background:

🍂Rescue: He was originally Kaisei, an original character from an Onmyōji badfic. In the fic, he was a modern zookeeper. He was friends with and had a crush on the Sue despite her admitting to treating him badly, up to and including borderline torture passed off as "pranks". After rescue, he is put through the Reality Room to give him an "official" background (see below) and name that fits in with Onmyōji canon. Despite this, memories of his old badfic life occasionally comes back to haunt him.

🍂Official background: Ōtsu no Uminari is an onmyōji in Heian period Japan. Not much else is known about him, but it's certain he is at least sufficiently trained in his art (or at least the portrayal of onmyōdō seen in the game), which means he can use talismans, summon shikigami, set up energy barriers, and seal away supernatural creatures.

🍁Appearance: A youthful-looking Japanese man with short black hair and black eyes. As a Heian period onmyōji, he prefers to wear the kind of kimono typical of them, which includes kariginu, hakama trousers and eboshi hats.

🍁Personality: His personality was not well-defined in his fic of origin; after a Reality Room session, he retains an upbeat disposition and a snarky streak, but is secretly traumatized by the Sue's treatment. He is absolutely fascinated with death and the afterlife, which is complicated by the fact living humans cannot enter the afterlife in his home canon (unless a special technique is used, which he isn't skilled enough to cast). He obsessively reads about anything afterlife-related, will be highly excited if he thinks he's in hell or if he runs into people he thinks are ghosts/undead/death gods, so on and so forth. Despite this, he is not suicidal.

🍁Weapon(s) and Item(s): As an onmyōji, he carries around talismans and paper dolls. Outside of that, he also carries ink, brushes and scrolls for writing and a nondescript paper folding fan.

🍁Trivia: Ōtsu no Uminari was a real person: an aristocrat from the early Heian period, an onmyōji with a government official position in the court under the Ritsuryō system. Aside from these details, no other information is known about this person whatsoever.
