The writer of this blog supports fanwork criticism and belongs to the fanwork critic community for the following reasons:

  • Writing fanfiction means borrowing someone else's settings and characters. It's our responsibility to play nice and respect another person's property, lest they take it back and let no one borrow it again. Many authors have banned fanfic based on their works with badfic being among the most common reasons.

  • Once something is published, it is open to public discourse and criticism. People have the right to voice opinions about a work of fiction just as writers have the right to write them themselves.

  • The writer of this blog is a fanfic writer herself, is passionate about the medium and is disheartened that the medium is looked down on. However, what's more disheartening is that the majority of accusations leveled at fanfic is well-deserved: for every piece of good fanfic, there are ten pieces of language butchering, unenjoyable storytelling and characterization, disrespect of the source material, promoting harmful ideas (sexism, racism, rape apologia, etc.)… overshadowing it. The writer is doing what she can to help identify fanfic pitfalls in order to avoid them, and has herself learned a lot about writing from reviews of bad media, fanfiction included.

  • It's funny. Reviewing and making fun of bad media is enjoyable, and there's a noticeable fanbase for this kind of thing.

Behavior not allowed on this blog and/or anywhere within the PPC community:

  • Making disparaging remarks about, directly attacking or linking sporkings to the authors of the badfics featured here or anywhere in the community. "Death of the author" is practiced and taken very seriously here; we criticize badfics, but we don't purposefully annoy authors and get them to stop writing. Fiction shared for public consumption is open to discussion and criticism, people are not. It's fine if the author accidentally stumbles upon less-than-favorable opinions about their works, but it's not cool to intentionally send them to the authors.

  • Reposting any writing on this site to other sites; this is to prevent drama.

  • Sporking or requesting sporkings of not public fanfiction i.e. f-locked fics on LiveJournal/Dreamwidth, member-locked fics on AO3, any doujinshi currently on sale, fics shared via mailing lists.

  • Sporking or requesting sporkings of original fiction, which are out of the PPC's jurisdiction.

  • Requesting sporking, period. The writer of this blog does not take requests.

  • Posting stories featuring agents/characters/minis by the writer of this blog on AO3, Wattpad, LiveJournal and Dreamwidth. The writer has been harassed on 3 of these sites.

  • Directly linking to the writer's accounts on any writing featuring her agents/characters/minis. The writer does not want to invite harassment.
